Question concerning the "System Wizard"

I own an Acer Ferrari 1100 PC with the 64-bit Windows Vista
Ultimate.

When I start the computer, I get the error message
(in Finnish):

"System Wizard on ajettava uudelleen
ennen kuin voit käyttää
tämän sovellutuksen
täyttä toiminnallisuutta."

This translates into English as

"The System Wizard must be executed again
in order for you to be able to utilize
the full functionality of this application."

I have not succeeded in finding the System Wizard, or
in finding the instructions how to use it.

Can you help?

regards, Mr Antti "Andy" Ylikoski

Re: Question concerning the "System Wizard"

Hi Andy,

There are dozens of different wizards, so you're going to need to isolate
what function is trying to load. Had you made any system changes prior to
this error or updated/installed any software? How about your AV application?

Re: Question concerning the "System Wizard"

I think that is the fingerprint scanner software for Acer notebooks.

Re: Question concerning the "System Wizard"

Immediately prior to the error appeared, I had been trying to shut down my
PC, and I thought that the shutdown procedure was taking an un-normally long
time, and I forced the PC to shut down by holding the power key down for 5
seconds. This is something I should not have done -- it sabotaged something
in the internal workings of the Windows Vista.

regards, Andy

PS. Is AV the short for "audiovisual"?

Idem

Re: Question concerning the "System Wizard"

Hi Andy,

AV is for antivirus. Have you tried a System Restore yet?

Re: Question concerning the "System Wizard"

Hi Rick,

The time when I forced the PC to shut dowm was the first time when I was
using my brand new Acer PC, therefore I cannot use the System Restore. I
could reload the operating system, but I don't know how to do it.

My AV software is the one made by Symantec, it seems to cause no problems.

Thanks for very good answers, Andy

Re: Question concerning the "System Wizard"

For re-loading the operating system, you can contact Acer or check up the
manual/user guide that accompanied the lap-top.

Re: Question concerning the "System Wizard"

Hi Andy,

Since it's new, and you're unlikely to have much on it, your best, and
probably fastest solution is to use the factory recovery steps. Check Acer's
manual for how to proceed, but generally it involves loading from a recovery
volume on the hard drive. If you can't figure it out, call their support for
directions as the system will still be under warranty.

The AV made by Symantec is probably the most problematic consumer product
available. In fact, it may be the cause of your problems as it has a number
of wizards of its own.

Re: Question concerning the "System Wizard"

Look for the System Settings program under Acer in the Start Menu. If you
run the program to setup the Fingerprint reader this message will go away.
On my computer it's here:

Start => All Programs => Acer => Acer Bio-protection fingerprint solution =>
System Settings
