Remote administration of Vista
Remote administration of Vista
Does Vista have remote administration? I would like to access my home (Vista) computer from work or library to change settings in software. The software needs admin access. No one would be at or using my home computer when I would do this. Vista help talks about remote desktop and remote assistance but does not describe it enough for me to know if that is what I would use. Is this what I use to do this? Is there any way to do this in vista? If not, is there any software that will let me do this? My DSL modem (Qwest DSL service) is an Actiontec model GT701R. It has remote management/telnet. Is that what I use? Is that safe if this is the way I am to do this? Background info: I have a AMD 4400+ 64X2 4GB memory 320GB HD(way bigger than I need) Acer computer (AM3100-U3201A) I purchased new February 2008 running 32-bit MS Vista Home Premium SP1 box. I check for MS auto updates very frequently. I think it has onboard shared memory for video and sound. I use Quest DSL 1.5mb service with modem direct to computer. No switches or routers or wireless or any other networking hardware. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks for the help. Bob |

Re: Remote administration of Vista
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 does not support Remote Desktop, you would
need Vista Business, Enterprise or Ultimate. Remote Assistance sounds ideal for your needs, but you would need someone at home to accept the invitation. I would recommend you use a third party solution such as RealVNC. http://www.realvnc.com/ -- Best regards, Andre Da Costa http://adacosta.spaces.live.com "Bob" <bobbREMOVE-CAPSus99@CAPSyaREMOVE-CAPShoo.com> wrote in message news:#tB#yS5SJHA.4504@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Remote administration of Vista > > Does Vista have remote administration? UltraVNC (www.uvnc.com) does provide a free version that works with Vista, however. -- Zaphod No matter where you go, there you are! |
