Copy some large folders to another machine or the same machine and watch
it crash. Do the same in Ubuntu and watch it fly to completion with no
problems. Debian seems even quicker.

Windows Explorer DOES have problems and has apparently always had
problems. Why, after all these years?

I just copied a 6 GB file from an external drive without problems in less than 5 minutes, where it took over 45 minutes to copy to the drive from a Windows XP machine. A lot depends on what the computers have on them and what hardware is used, not the OS.

Exactly right, I have no problems at all with Windows Explorer, copying
folders that are over 20 Gig daily to a different hard drive. (backup copy)

cheers
