Aero missing since updating ATI Drivers

Hi All,
I have a problem with the Aero Color Scheme no longer showing.
My PC supports this featuer and it has been working fine up until now.

-Pentium 4 Quad core
-4 GIG DDR3
-2x ATI Radion 3870's set to Crossfire (2 GIG Ram) DirectX 10
-Vista Ultimate 64 Bit

Everything has been working fine, but recently I had to update my video
card drivers. I downloaded the latest from the ATI website, Un-installed
my old drivers completely and Catalyst and then reinstalled the new
drivers and software. Now the Aero functions are not showing and I am
missing the options to enable or make changed to Aero.

When I enter the Window Color and Appearance screen, Previously I would
see colored boxes and an option to enable transparancy.
However now I don't see this screen, but instead I am presented with
the "Classic View" with no options for Aero present.

I've read through multiple forums and tried a number of suggestions
including a command to "Flush Areo" from a cmd prompt, checked that my
Desktop Manager and Themes services are running (I've tried restarting
them too)

I've refreshed my Windows Experience Index and interestingly my my
Gaming Graphics score has dropped from 5.9 to 5.7
I've run DXDiag and there are no errors.
I am able to display 3D graphics with no issues and all other functions
of the graphics card appear to work just fine.

Any ideas?

I apprecate any input

Sounds like buggy ATI drivers. I haven't touched mine since I got one that
works reliably. There have been several updates since, but I have ignored
them.

If you can, uninstall the new drivers and re-install your old drivers.

You can try this script here on line 22.

Re: Aero missing since updating ATI Drivers

Simsey,

As Bob said above, you should attempt to revert your drivers back to the
original working state. If you require the ATI driver, I actually have the
ATI drivers in 32 bit on a CD handy, and have no problem sending them to you
via email. (And yes, these drivers allow Aero).

Thanks for the advice here. I tried the original drivers and it didn't
resolve the issue.

Thanks for the Link Paul. Checked it out, ran the script, rebooted...no
joy :-(

Thanks Colton,
I've tried installing my original drivers which worked before and am
beginning to wonder now if it's not a driver issue afterall.
It's totally possible that Aero wasn't working before I installed these
new ATI drivers now I come to think of it, and I've kind of proven it
now by reinstalling the original driver and running a system restore to
a point earlier today.

I did have this happen once before on this same computer after a
windows update. The only solution was to System Restore in the end which
worked. Since I'm not 100% sure when it stopped working this time, I
guess I'm out of luck.
I appreciate the feedback tho.

Re: Aero missing since updating ATI Drivers

I have a similar issue.

The Aero theme does not show up in the list of themes, however I can
enable transparency in the "Window Color and Appearance" page. I am
also running an ATI card (ATI Radeon HD 4800). I had the same issue in
Windows Server 2008 with the same hardware.
