Shut down
For some reason, when my computer now shuts down, the desktop disappears
(normal) and the "Shutting Down/Logging Off" message flashes; then, my desktop and icons reappear momentarily, and then the "Shutting Down/Logging Off" message appears again and the machine shuts down normally. This never happened before. My paranoid mind thinks that maybe someone/something is logged on along with me. ) (Heck, maybe there is!!!)Any thoughts as to what might trigger this change in shutdown? As always, thanks in advance for your help. |

If you didn't then start scanning for malware, virus etc. Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D and Avast AV scanner all have free versions and should find any issues. |

Re: Shut down
Thank you, Jonathan, for your reply.
FYI, I have a Netgear Wireless A/G router with a built-in firewall. At the present time, I am running two wireless laptops, one wireless desktop, one hard-wired desktop. I have Avast! installed, along with Windows Defender, on each computer. My small, home network is encrypted with 128-bits. I did have Norton 360 installed on each machine, but it was such a resource hog, I uninstalled it from each about a week ago; then, used Norton's removal tool to remove its' remnants. (I think Norton 360 is good for someone who is a novice and doesn't "look after' their computers.) Anyhow, that's about the time this peculiar way of shutting down on my one laptop occurred. Go figure. By the way, I have Malwarebytes and Spybot on each machine. (Talk about redundancy!) Nonetheless, they're installed and have done their scans, finding nothing. Avast! and Windows Defender found nothing, also. I guess I'm going to have to live with it. It's a minor quirk. But, since there is no immediate "shout" from this group that they know about this problem, I shall not panic. (Hmmmm) )Thanks for the input. Enjoy the holidays, you and your family.
