The OP's original post sounded to me like a home pc user who was having
difficulty doing some things that were pretty mundane under XP, and for
which solutions exist that are reasonable for home pc users. The
network admin angle very much changes the complexion of the issues.
Home users can use less formal methods for issue resolution to keep
themselves productive. Enterprise admins, however need more systematic
solutions that can be automated and that work well in a
security-restricted environment, and that can be pushed to machines via
policies. In that context, yes, there are some things missing from
Vista.
