I had usually a similar problem:
When I use windows explorer and when a picture or movies appears file with
an icons view (it doesn’t happen with a detail view), appears the following
message:
"Windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working".
What can I do to stop this kind of messages?

I keep getting the same message as RuiMBR is no matter how i am viewing my
folders and it happens whenever I try to access my files through any program.

What are the specific details for this crash according to the Problem
Reports and Solutions Center control panel?

Hi
First I would like to express the frustration of the majority of non english
speaking Vista Users. There were useful forums in several languages for XP,
now there is apparently only one left, in english, for Vista! or how can we
reach forums in french, dutch, german, etc. ? Not over the "help" page of
Microsoft ! In the meantime, I found a solution through my former
XP-computer. Anyway, this is not the problem.

Running Vista home premium 32 bits, Intel Core Duo T7500, 4GB RAM

Rundll32 has stopped: I have the same error, solutions offered are the
following:
quote "This problem was caused by lmpgspl.ax, which was created by Ligos
Corporation.

lmpgspl.ax is a codec. A codec is software that is used to compress or
decompress a digital media file, such as a song or video. Media players and
other programs use codecs to play and create digital media files.

Troubleshooting

To try to solve this problem, follow these steps. One step might solve the
problem, but if it doesn't, then go on to the next step.

Check for updates for lmpgspl.ax

Go online to check for and install updates that might be available for
lmpgspl.ax:

Ligos Corporation

Disable thumbnail view in Windows Explorer

Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel,
clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.
Click the View tab, and then select the Always show icons, never thumbnails
check box.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Uninstall the program that caused the problem

If this problem occurred after you installed a new program, the problem
might be caused by that program. If you know which program you just
installed, you can uninstall it.

Click to open Programs and Features.
Select a program, and then click Uninstall. If you are prompted for an
administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide
confirmation.

Note: If the program that you want to uninstall is not listed, it might not
have been written for this version of Windows. To uninstall the program,
check the information that came with the program.


Use the regsrv32 command to unregister lmpgspl.ax

If you don't know which program is causing this problem, you can remove
lmpgspl.ax from the list of installed codecs by unregistering it.

Note: Disabling lmpgspl.ax will cause any programs that depend on the codec
to stop working or lose functionality.
Click the Start button , and then, in the Search box, type Command Prompt.
From the list of results, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as
administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or
confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

At the command prompt, type regsvr32 /u lmpgspl.ax, and then press ENTER.
lmpgspl.ax is now unregistered.
What do I do if the regsrv32 command fails or returns an error?

If you followed the regsrv32 command steps to disable the lmpgspl.ax codec
and the steps didn't work, you can try renaming the codec file to disable it.

Click the Start button , and then, in the Search box, type lmpgspl.ax.
In the list of search results, right-click lmpgspl.ax, and then click Open
file location.
Right click lmpgspl.ax, and then click Rename.
Rename the file (for example, change the name to lmpgspl.ax.old). Remember
the file name so you can enable it later if you need to.
If these troubleshooting steps do not solve the problem and you continue to
receive problem reports, please consider filling out the survey at the bottom
of this solution page. To help us continue to investigate this error, include
the names of the add-ons that are currently enabled in Internet Explorer in
the comments area of the survey" unquote

Please check the Ligos Corp web page and see their answer.

The existing files lmpg/spl/ad/vd.ax are dated November 2001 ! It is
irresponsible of Microsoft to include such an old software in a brandnew OS
and of course the duty of Microsoft to check for a solution to that problem
(update of lmpg....ax) and include it in the next Vista update. As an MFST,
you can easily transmit this to the correct service at Microsoft.

Unregistering this Codec/Codec-reader (?) ist not the correct solution, as
well as disabling the thumbnail view is not a correct solution (I have for
instance more than 24'000 pictures saved on an external disc and I do not
want to use an extra software to watch them as thumbnails).

What codec pack did you install to get this extremely old third party MPEG
splitter installed? It is not registered on the system by default, so I'm
confused by your statements.

I'm confused why you would need this MPEG splitter registered on your
system. Ligos does not support its usage on Windows Vista, so there's no
reason it should be registered or used on your system. It should provide no
functionality that was not already previously available on your system.
Could you clarify why you feel you need it?
