Media Player makes me download .m3u files instead of streaming

I have a new Toshiba notebook running Vista. Windows Media Player 11 will not
PLAY the m3u files from RadioParadse or the samples from emusic. It forces me
to download them first. I never had this problem on XP.

Instead of playing them, it says:
"Do you want to save this file?
The file you are downloading cannot be opened by the default program. It is
either corrupted or it has an incorrect file type."

Other than just getting another Media Player, what do I do?

Thanks,
Thompson

Re: Media Player makes me download .m3u files instead of streaming

Both should be caused by a third party player corrupting Windows Media
Player's associations. Which third party players are on the system?

You may be able to reset this via going to the Set Program Access and
Defaults control panel and using that to reassociate to Windows Media
Player.

But somebody should be doing something non-Vista-compatible here.... getting
that other party to fix their software so as not to break Vista
functionality would be nice. =\

Re: Media Player makes me download .m3u files instead of streaming

I am having the same problem as "CLTNY" wrote about several months ago with a
twist. CLTNY wrote: I have a new Toshiba notebook running Vista. Windows

I'm getting the same problem but I just started getting it about 2 months
ago. I am trying to listen to Sound Clips within the CDBaby website. I have
listened to them for approximately one year (with this same computer set up
exactly the same way with Vista) with no problem and then these messages
start. I have contacted CDBaby and asked them if they have changed something
and the answer was no. I will try the associations fix you suggest below and
let you know.

Just wanted to post the note that I had tried "ZACHD's" fix for the m3u file
problem that I was having with CDBaby and it corrected the problem. Thanks
much to ZACHD!
