Hello,

I have a strange issue that have not noticed below:

When I view an image that does not seem to fit on the screen windows does
not seem to resize it properly, it seems that aspect ratio is wrong.

Repro steps:

Launch Windows Photo Gallery,
Open an image that is larger than ur resolution or the same ie. 1280x1024
Observe an image ** the image will be resized but it will be more shrunk
horizontally and will look odd.
(it looks like windows screws up the aspect ratio)

Configuration:
Clean Windows Vista Business x64 installation
cpu: Amd Athlon x64 2.4 x2
ram: 4GB 800mhz (tried with 2 also)
vid: 8800gts 640mb
sound: xfi
display: viewsonic vx922 @ 1080x1024(native)

Photo Galley doesn't say it will maintain aspect ratio, in fact it is
just an image viewer. Most every thumbnail viewer I've seen suffers
from the same shortcoming. If you want to keep proper aspect ratio
when previewing images buy a professional grade image enhancement
application like Photoshop.

The thing is that in wondows XP it works fine.

As you already know the photoshop is the image editing software and not much
of a viewer.

The problem i am experiencing is that when I want just to browse through a
lot of images, I really dont feel like launching photoshop every time.

I appreciate your comment above, I just hope there could be some other issue
as I recall it used to work fine before I reinstalled Vista.

Could it be an issue with Thumbnail db where Vista cashes previews? Can It
be reset?

Just a wild guess I really don't know, maybe and it is only a maybe
Photo Galley would actually have to open and adjust the image rather
than just make a quick thumbnail of it, which could really slow it
down. Like you said yourself you're just browsing so it really
shouldn't matter.

Just curious, what happens if you print out one of these images from
Photo Galley? Is the Aspect Ratio correct then, I'm guessing it would
be. So no harm, no foul. I doubt there will be a "fix" for this since
it is probably considered a "feature", where just generating the
thumbnails as fast as possible is more important about worrying if or
not some are a little out of wack aspect wise when browser. I'm
further guessing the same applies if your view the image at full size,
since I don't see any maintain Aspect Ratio button anywhere in Photo
Gallery unless I missed it.
