wendows defender problem

Hey guys . The wendows defender stopped working . The antivirus I have
is gone ( Kasparasky) , The Admisistrative tools wendow is empty . I
can't start the office any more . most of the start manue applications
are gone includug the system restore .

That happened just few hours ago, when the system showed me the blue
screen telling me that the system is Halted by a memory problem
.???????????????

Can any one explain what happened . I have been using windows system
for years and never had any problem like this .
I have invisted a lot of money with this system to avaoid such problems

Including a backup hard drive? You've just learned the hard way what it
took me three total system crashes to learn; buy a backup HDD and image
your drive a few times a month.

I think your best bet is backing up everything you can immediatly, then
try a Windows Repair from your vista install disc. If it works properly,
Vista itself should be reset, but all your other data will remain.

Short of that, it is time to reinstall Windows.

Whatever you do, backup anything you can now in case Windows goes even
farther downhill.
