Re: "This installation package could not be opened."
This error indicates several possibilities: 1. The file doesn't exist or is corrupt. Easily verified, is it there? Will a copy of it install on another machine? If yes, the file is good. 2. The file is not a valid MSI file. Well if it installed on another machine, then it is. 3. A problem with MSI itself, which has been sufficiently covered. 4. You do not have permissions to the file, aka security problem. This is what mine was, but the security issue was not apparent. Checking all security settings checked out ok. However, I created anothe user account with admin rights and everyting installed fine. Not only that, but everyting now installs fine on my problem user. Hmm. Well a light went off, I had changed the user name on my account. I believe that this is the problem. XP was famous for not changing everything in the user profile when the account name was changed. Most people buy a comp from and OEM and change the user name from OWNER to thiers. I would suggest creating a user account as a practice and deleting the OWNER account. Hope this helps. -- wildmanfrost |
