music stutters or skips on disc or file while played.

I have a Dell Dimension c521 and I am using the stock windows media player.
When I play music discs or music files the songs start to stutter or skip
during the last ten or fifteen seconds then resumes normal play. This does
not happen with factory discs only on burned discs or downloaded music files.
Is my player corrupted? This has been an ongoing problem for a few months
now. The same discs that worked fine before are now playing funny. I take
very good care of my discs so it would not be from scratches and I used to
download music with no playback problems all the time. Then all of a sudden
this! What can I do to once again have smooth playback with no interruptions?

Maybe the following info will offer some ideas:

Previously posted by Cal Bear '66

Control Panel (Classic view) > Sounds > Playback tab > highlight Speakers >
press Properties button > Enhancements tab > CHECK the "Disable all
enhancements" checkbox. (Vista's Help and Support has guided help for this
procedure -- search for "audio skipping".)

Sigma Tel audio adapter?

Windows Vista -
How do I stop my music from skipping
or breaking up when I play it?
