| Guest Posts: n/a | netwoking issues on vista i currently have 3 pc's on our network... 1. xp pro 2. vista ultimate (downstairs ill refer to this as vista 1) 3. vista ultimtae (upstairs ill refer to this as vista 2) xp pc + vista 1 are networked fine, however the vista 2 can see visa 1 fine, but not xp. also, xp cannot "see" vista 2 and vista 1 can "see" vista 2, however cannot access. i have checked all settings in the network and sharing settings on both vista pc's and turned file sharing on + made network private... i am quite sure that it has nothing to with the firewall as i have turned ALL firewalls off including windows firewalls.... network discovery is turned on with both vista 1 and vista 2...also password protected sharing is turned off on both vista 1 and 2. i am getting prety frusterated lol, i have been doing some reading, also i have turned IPv6 off on both vista 1 and 2 also i have turned NetBios on both vista 1 + vista 2..... if any1 can give me a hand it would be great!!! |

| Guest Posts: n/a | RE: netwoking issues on vista Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing. Permissions/Share info is there as well. If using Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro I.S., make sure file and printer sharing is enabled in THEIR firewall .(LAN allowed) 1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is the SAME. In Vista Network and Sharing: Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers) Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc) File Sharing: ON Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared Docs) Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames, and passwords (they can be different) on ALL computers in your Network). If you have it ON, you will be asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer from an XP computer, or a Vista Computer. Also, If you haven’t done so already, run XP’s Network Setup Wizard (in Start >All Programs >Accessories >Communications), and tell the Wizard to enable File and Printer Sharing. | Guest Posts: n/a | Re: netwoking issues on vista Hi Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings, As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is allowed to be shared. Vista File and Printer Sharing- Windows XP File Sharing - Printer Sharing XP - Windows Native Firewall setting for Sharing XP - Windows XP patch for Sharing with Vista - Jack (MVP-Networking).
