Re: Vista 32 bit and 8gig ram
if you want to be able to "use" the full 8gig you need to have a 64bit version of VIsta, as 32 bit can only use around 3.5gb max, -- d0od tech news, view and reviews. '*www.d0od.blogspot.com*' (http://www.d0od.blogspot.com) "I'm sick of smiling... and so is my jaw..." |

Re: Vista 32 bit and 8gig ram
You need the 64 Bit version of Windows to utilise anything over 4GB RAM. The
32 Bit windows Vista can only use a maximum of 4GB and then, in most cases, it will only register 3.5GB -- -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". Like others have said, a 32-bit OS can only address 4GB, by the time other hardware is taken into account it'll be less than that. Detailed explantion up here: http://www.dasmirnov.net/blog/2008/0...ng-more-than-4 If you've got the retail version of Windows Vista Ultimate, one of the discs in the case will be the 64-bit version. So you could at least install it to try it out and make sure everything is working for you. -- Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK.
