White progress bar during startup

Hey does anyone know how to get rid of the white progress bar that shows up
during start up?
I have posted a message on a group on Microsoft but no one wants to tell me
how to fix it. They say I must have done something wrong when I installed my
second drive.
It started showing up after I started using a second hard drive. I know of
others who have added drives just the same way I have. They don't have to
wait 5-6 minutes because of the white progress bar.
I have the second drive setup as the slave drive and my first drive is setup
as Master that's the drive Windows XP boots from.

Any ideas to get rid of the white bar other than unhooking the second hard
drive?
Thanks,

Try booting to xp cd,recovery,in recovery type:Fixboot Then maybe:
CHKDSK C: /p Then :EXIT Let xp start

Re: White progress bar during startup

All my PC's have a starting progress bar - win2k & winxp pro - how long it
shows depends on what I have loading -

If your PC is taking a long time to load win, after installing a second hd,
then that might indicate a driver issue

Re: White progress bar during startup

Progress bar indicates you are exiting hibernation mode. How are you
shutting down?

Re: White progress bar during startup

It's not hibernate because I have all hibernation setting turned off.
I am using either shut down or restart. It even does it if I have to turn
off at the power switch if I have computer lock up.

Re: White progress bar during startup

What driver issue?
You mean for the second hard drive?
Should I look for a driver for the hard drive?

Re: White progress bar during startup

Not hd driver; possibly chipset driver & if you used winupdate for drivers
then you could have a whole host of driver problems

You could allways enable boot logging then check the log to see what is
taking time to load

Re: White progress bar during startup

This may be a stupid question. I restarted XP and told it to enable boot
logging, where does it put the boot log? I checked my C drive, Windows
directory, programs directory. Couldn't find it.
