Realtek High Definition Audio doesn't install properly
I have a problem installing Realtek High Definition Audio drivers.
When installing the most recent driver from Realtek website (WDM_R178.exe), the driver installation stops with an error message: Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !! When I look at the device manager, it says that the drivers are not installed. I'm using an ASUS P5K motherboard with onboard audio enabled in the BIOS. Also using WinXP Pro with all the latest patches. At some point, I decided to disabled the audio device within the BIOS and I was able to fully install the driver from Realtek, but if I go back and re-enable the onboard audio.. still the same issue, no sound and the device manager still show a problem with High Definition Audio driver. I also tried to uninstall the High Definition Audio driver from the device manager, but I'm getting an error saying that it's not possible to remove it because it is required for booting the OS. I saw a couple of threads on similar issue, but can't find a clear solution for that. Please help me with this issue. Thanks. Jeff. |

But after some troubleshooting, I found that the UAA driver needed to be installed first before trying to install any Realtek driver. Once I've figured that out, everything worked fine. Thanks for your help. Jeff. |

Google for it. This is a common issue, somewhere in the docs the realtek folks should have told you that UAA is required. I had same issue w/ compaq, it was buried in the fine print had I cared to read it! |

Re: Realtek High Definition Audio doesn't install properly
Hi,
With the Asus P5K mainboard I had the same problems> can not install the HD Audio driver. I installed KB888111 from Microsoft, after that installing the Realtek driver from the Asus CD Rom was still not possible. (Windows XP with SP2) I removed the Realtek folder from the Program Files, still no luck. I installed while the HD Audio option was disabled in BIOS, this went fine, but still no HD audio driver detected in the device. I called Asus. This was the solution for me: 1)Go in safe mode 2)Disable the Realtek HD audio device under Sound Video Games controllers, do not uninstall it here! 3)Disable under the system devices> Microsoft UAA bus driver for high definition audio, do not uninstall it here! 4)Now uninstall the Microsoft UAA bus driver for high definition audio (via this device manager in safe mode), realtek will then also be uninstalled automatically 5)Install the latest driver from the Asus website 6)and then you are ready. In case you can not uninstall the UAA driver, go to microsoft.com and find KB888111. It has some regedit instructions to remove KB888111. I did not need to reinstall KB888111 after this procedure. Have fun. Newbie Coder wrote: > Jeff, > > Try this driver: > > > > or > > > > or > > > |
