Need some help please I am not that technical
Hi, I have bought a copy of windows xp home edditon OEM I am having problems
when I download all the 86 updates that are available to me my computer crashes all the time I can hear the fans struggle a little (well they make a different noise - it seams that the fans slow down) then I get restarted but when I go to safe mode and restore to the point before I installed the updates the system is working fine. is there anything i am doing wrong? Also I have recently added 2gb RAM in to my computer I already had 2gb RAM in it is dual channel and when I am in (SYSTEM) on my computer it is showing as 3.5GB but when I load Vista from my other hard drive it is showing 4gb I am clueless any help would be appreciative |

RE: Need some help please I am not that technical
I wouldn't be concerned with the fans, when the system is in standby it's
developing less heat, so the fans slow down, as work increases the heat also increases. since you have restored the system to before the updates, try downloading the updates one at a time to isolate which one is causing the issue, (I know it's a pain, but it's the only way to isolate which one is causing the problem) "stockportrico" wrote: > Hi, I have bought a copy of windows xp home edditon OEM I am having problems > when I download all the 86 updates that are available to me my computer > crashes all the time I can hear the fans struggle a little (well they make a > different noise - it seams that the fans slow down) then I get restarted but > when I go to safe mode and restore to the point before I installed the > updates the system is working fine. is there anything i am doing wrong? > > Also I have recently added 2gb RAM in to my computer I already had 2gb RAM > in it is dual channel and when I am in (SYSTEM) on my computer it is showing > as 3.5GB but when I load Vista from my other hard drive it is showing 4gb I > am clueless any help would be appreciative |

Just because the booklet says it's compatible doesn't mean the two sets play well together. Have you run it with just the new RAM? Also you could run a couple of these memory testing utilities. They run from a bootable floppy or CD. Run at least 2 at each one for 24hrs or so. Test each set of two and with all the memory together. For windows updates try installing a limited number at a time, no more than 5, that makes it easier to spot which one is the problem, if in fact it is an update that's the problem. I don't see how adding two sticks of RAM could be related to a PSU problem. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |
