Sp2 Update Erorr Msg AMD64\update.exe is not a valid win32 applica
I have dowloaded the WINDOWS XP SP2 Upated on my Desktop. When I attempt to
install, I get an error message, a long way into the installation process that the UPDATE FAILED : AMD64\update.exe is not a valid Win 32 Application. I had installed Windows xp Professional on top of WINDOWS 2000. When I installed I had the option to Delete WIDOWS2000 and to a complete new install or Load XP on top of 2000. I am not really computer literate and was concerned about doing an uninstall of the 2000 and possibly screw everything up. I am not sure if the XP on top on WINDOWS 2000 is the problem. Any Suggestions would be appreciated. -- chicoxp |

Hi chicoxp,
Anytime you change an operating system, it is always best to reformat and reinstall the operating system, because when you reinstall your other programs, they installed the drivers for your latest operating system, not your past operating system. Are you running Windows XP Professional Edition or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition? -- thecreator "chicoxp" <chicoxp@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:49302C3E-F413-4738-9190-3C4F7808E144@microsoft.com... >I have dowloaded the WINDOWS XP SP2 Upated on my Desktop. Re: Sp2 Update Erorr Msg AMD64\update.exe is not a valid win32 app
The Box indicates Windows Xp Progessional Version 2002 . I don't see any
reference to x64 Editon I had chosen to do the upgrade ( XP on top of 2000) since the 2000 was on the machine as I got it and I did not have the original software discs. As I understand it, if I did the 2000 uninstall, I would not be able to load the UPGRADE Version. I had to be a licensed User and did not know what would happen if I did an unistall of 2000 (i.e. how would I prove I was a licensed user). I had run into a similar problem attempting to install a lexmark z12 printe. I was attempting to assign XP drivers but I think my system ( with the Windows 2000) still defaulted to older drivers. I did not have this problem with my "very old" hp deskjet with I still use with new XP Thanks, chicoxp -- chicoxp "thecreator" wrote: > Hi chicoxp, > > Anytime you change an operating system, it is always best to reformat > and reinstall the operating system, because when you reinstall your other > programs, they installed the drivers for your latest operating system, not > your past operating system. > > Are you running Windows XP Professional Edition or Windows XP > Professional x64 Edition? > > > -- > thecreator > > > "chicoxp" <chicoxp@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:49302C3E-F413-4738-9190-3C4F7808E144@microsoft.com... > >I have dowloaded the WINDOWS XP SP2 Upated on my Desktop. Hi chicoxp,
That is what I mean, > I had run into a similar problem attempting to install a lexmark z12 printe. > I was attempting to assign XP drivers but I think my system ( with the > Windows 2000) still defaulted to older drivers. I did not have this > problem > with my "very old" hp deskjet with I still use with new XP Go to eBay and search for Windows 98 SE Upgrade in Operating systems in order to prove prior ownership, buy the Upgrade CD and use it. Then you will be able to reformat and reinstall without problems. You do not need a Full Version copy of an operating system, in order to prove prior ownership. It will save you a lot of problems. -- thecreator "chicoxp" <chicoxp@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:A1D53156-FCD4-41B0-A47A-88DF533D9182@microsoft.com... > The Box indicates Windows Xp Progessional Version 2002 .
