You need to post a complete copy of the Stop Error Report including the code etc. Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced, Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before Automatically Restart. Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure even after you have solved the problem as it's better disabled. Check for variants of the Stop Error message. An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic restart on system failure. If you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key does not work substitute a wired keyboard and mouse for this exercise only. -- Hope this helps. ok done that now i get a blue screen that reads
'a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. unmountable_boot_volume if this is the first time youve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. if this screen appears again, follow these steps: check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.if this is a new installation , ask you hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you may need. if the problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.if you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options, and the select safe mode. technical information: ***stop: 0x000000ed (0x823229e0,0xc0000006,0x00000000,0x00000000)' "Gerry" wrote: > James > > You need to post a complete copy of the Stop Error Report including the > code etc. > > Disable automatic restart on system failure. Re: windows wont boot up :(
No, you will need to Start with the XP CD in the CD-ROM and select the Recovery console to start in Recovery Console. Read the links provided and all the info there on how to perform the Recovery Console. You may need to adjust the BIOS to Start from CD as your First Boot options then your Hard Drive. If this procedure is not your cup of tea, take the machine to your local Repair Shop to repair it for you. P.S if you tried the Recovery and Got Enter Password, leave as Blank if you didn't set a password on first installation. Re: windows wont boot up :(
Hi Fallen, Did you Set the Boot option in the BIOS like this: 1- CD-ROM <=First Boot 2- HDD1 as Second Boot (make sure it is the Master partition if you have Two HDDs). 3- Floppy Drive <= as your Third boot device. If this was correct then either your HDD is bad or the MBR has a problem linking to an active partition, try to Enable the Pri Master and see if the HDD will be seen. Or try to reverse which you done and make the HDD your first Device then your CD-ROM then whichever device(s) left. Also you can check that the Data cable (Ribbon cable) is firmly connected from either the Motherboard and Hard Drive (make sure to not fry the Motherboard by your Body ESD?).
