'Windold' folder: Upgrading motherboard
Hi there,
I need expert advice: I was asked by my tech service to reinstall XPpro after of a motherboard upgrade. They performed a full reinstallation of XP on a new 'windows' folder (instead of reformatting the hard drive) and renamed the old windows folder to 'windold'. My question is, it's safe to delete this 'windold' folder? I assume it's not needed by the system anymore... not sure. It is taking up 4.43gb of space on the HD vs. the 3.33gb of new 'windows' folder. Any ideas? Thanks |

There was no reason to perform a 'full reinstallation of XP'... A repair installation would have worked fine and left everything of yours intact. As for whether or not it is 100% safe to delete - hard to say - although 90% of me wants to tell you sure. Personally - I would try to rename it to something like "myoldwindows" and then wait a few days to see if anything bad happens - no? Delete away. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way |
