Windows Genuine Advantage CD does not install
Message: I received the Windows Genuine Advantage disc: Microsoft Order
Complete (Important - Contains Product Information) -- Order Number: 01112014942245. After installing the email download version, I upgraded the hard drive on the Compaq Armada E500 from 40Gb to 12Gb and installed W 2000, because it requires four floppy boot discs before reading the W2000 CD which installed okay. When I attempted to load the Windows Genuine Advantage CD it hangs when I click on Install Windows XP. The some of the other buttons work okay, so I'm sure the CD is read properly. So far I have not used the new 25-character Product Key with the CD, because it didn't get that far. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Bernie Streberger |

RE: Windows Genuine Advantage CD does not install
Youre corrupting youre pc....Why install 2000,then turn around to install
xp,or are you upgradeing to xp.Either way, windows OS don't use floppy disks,or specifically thier never needed for the OS.Also, how did you get yourself in a situation to where youre loading genuine advantage & windows xp at the same time...Take advantage cd & throw it out the window, install xp cd,boot to xp cd, at the xp cd boot menu, select install, new copy, delete the partition(s),create one, let xp format & install auto...Once installed, stick to updates and windows add-ons thru windows update only..... The Compaq Armada E500 with a new unformatted hard drive cannot initially read the CD. Instead it initially reads the floppy drive as older systems do. The Windows 2000 Professional CD includes a boot feature that can create four floppies. I didn't find the boot feature on the XP CD so I installed the W2000 floppies which enabled the Compaq E500 to read the W2000 CD and complete the installation. At this point I want to upgrade it to XP, but it the Windows Genuine Advantage CD hangs on the Install XP button. |

Bernie
Windows 2000 does not need or does not require WGA. Windows XP does. So if XP is not installed the WGA CD is not going to install on W2K. Why are you installing W2K. Are you planning to double boot and use both W2K and XP. You should install XP SP2 first and then W2K if you plan to do the latter -- Peter Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged. As far as I know, the WGA CD for XP does not provide/support a floppy start. As I mentioned the Armada E500 can only read the floppy with a new unformatted hard drive, then it looks to the CD for the rest of the install. If XP prvides a floppy boot, then I would use it. I need to upgrade to XP with WGA. Bernie |
