MSN Messenger video carousel kills my internet connection...
Can anyone tell me why my high speed cable internet connection breaks up
whenever I try viewing a MSN Video, like the ones on the Sympatico page? Is it because I'm on competing ISP Videotron instead of Sympatico's Bell service? If so, maybe the video carousel in MSN Messenger should stop displaying MSN Videos to Videotron subscribers. Each time I click on one, I need to reboot the computer (or unplug the Linksys router for 1 full minute) to reset my connection. It's the damnest thing. The whole page loads fine, but the video just hangs, and then everything gets disconnected (even Messenger itself disconnects itself). The internet connection just DIES each time I try to view a MSN Video from the Messenger carousel. |

Re: MSN Messenger video carousel kills my internet connection...
I get the same problem. I have Qwest Connect® Platinum with Windows
LiveTM (a DSL service) and my Internet connection breaks up any time I try to view the videos in "En Video" on latino.msn.com. These are all at http://video.msn.com. Usually I have to power cycle my router, a Linksys BEFW11S4, to get out of it. There is a really nice one from Azteca America featuring Graciela Beltrán singing "No me preguntes por él". Sometimes I get through the whole video, but the router is dead every time by the end. I find that I have to see it several times a day though. She's so pretty, and not a bad singer either. It's funny, the Internet light on the router keeps blinking, as does the Ethernet light on the modem, but nothing seems to be getting through after the connection dies. Hope this helps. You are not alone. Qwest is an MSN partner, and I have the fastest service available, or so they say, so I don't think the problem is your ISP. I am thinking of upgrading the Linksys to a WRT54G, on sale at Office Depot. Cheers, Earle "mjs" <no@thanks.com> wrote in message news:egeH9yyJIHA.5160@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > No one? Re: MSN Messenger video carousel kills my internet connection...
The router upgrade appears to have improved things somewhat. I made it
all the way through the video, twice, without losing my connection. The second time I lost sound though. Let's see if I can play it a third time. Nope, have to reboot to get the sound back. The WRT54G is definitely an improvement. It's more than just the Wireless B to Wireless G upgrade too. I am just using the Ethernet part of it. I have played about eight videos now without rebooting the router. Playback seems smoother too. It's probably your router. "He's dead, Jim." What model Linksys are you using? The WRT54G is $69.95 at Office Depot. Working much better now. Anyone want to buy a slightly used obsolescent Linksys BEFW11S4? Try posting your query to the Windows Live Messenger- or MSN
Messenger-specific newsgroup: microsoft.public.windows.live.messenger or microsoft.public.msn.messenger On the web: http://www.microsoft.com/communities...live.messenger http://www.microsoft.com/communities....msn.messenger In your newsreader: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...live.messenger news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof....msn.messenger -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.org/ mjs wrote: > No one? Nothing to do with Messenger. The videos on video.msn.com choke the old
Linksys router he is using. In this case "old" isn't more than a few years, but that's the bleeding edge of technology. Microsoft "Experts" conspicuously absent from this one...
Maybe the Linux people were right after all.

Re: Microsoft "Experts" conspicuously absent from this one...
It's his router. Get a newer model, a non-Linksys or bypass the router
entirely and the problem goes away. I just threw the BEFW11S4 in the trash. Let me know if you want it. It probably works perfectly with any Linux computer. ;^) No, the Linux people were not right after all. Re: MSN Messenger video carousel kills my internet connection...
Why would you stick to Linksys after our common experience?
I'm in Canada and it's very hard to get the WRT54G here. I am thinking of going DLink. Mistake?
