Hi all,

I have two computers hooked on a router both running windows xp sp2.
Both connect to the internet fine.
I ran Network Wizard to connect the two to share files.
Problem is....
One computer has allowed me access to the other e.g
Computer A has access to files on Computer B
But
Computer B doesnt have access to Computer A


All im getting is the message:
" \\name of computer is not accessible. You might not have permission
to use the network resource. Contact the administrator of the server
to find out if you have access permissions".
it appears in almost second after typing \\name not thinking at all.


I try ping each other and it worked fine and also turn off the
firewalls.


Please advise how to solve this.

Sharing a folder only applies to the users of that system if you use Simple
File Sharing OR you are trying to share folders outside the "My Documents
area. I would guess you are using Pro, but even Home can establish sharing
outside (by using the default "Administrator" account in Safe Mode.) First
you set Permissions for that net user account, (or create an identical
ID/Pass on your machine)

Hi all,

some helpful advices. First of all I want to say that I feel as a bull shit the folder sharing under windows XP. Below I'll explain the most problem, and the explain why I feel like a shit this.

So if you have 2 (or more) PCs and you want to share between them the folder share1 (from PC1) and the folder share2 (from PC2), a professional sharing with password, first of all you must have windowsXP Professional, under home is not possible with password.

1. Go to MyComputer then Tools->FolderOptions and at View tab go to the end at the list and uncheck "Use simple file sharing (Recommended).

2. the most important step is here (the stupid step I consider). Let's say that the PC1 has the admin1 as the user name logged, and the PC2 has the admin2 as the user name logged. So, it is very important if you want to give the permission to admin2 at your PC1 folder access you have to create the user name with his password under users in control panel. And also the admin2 has to create the admin1 user with his password on his PC2 for having access. The stupidity is that if the network is 10 people you must create 10 users or just 1 user but each one to have the same user name and password.

3. now sharing is changed, go to your folder share1 and with right click choose "share and security". Then choose share this folder, the desired number of users if you want (this is users connected at the same time). Select Permissions and then remove "Everyone". Then Add->Advanced->Find Now and choose the user created giving the desired rights. That's all.
