MS Defrag Program No Good Anymore
Hi Folks,
I saw quite a few peeps saying that the MS Defrag seems to have little or no effect on the speeding up of machines anymore. It seems like Microsloth has "sabotaged" its own defrag programme. Now even though the display screen "looks neater", this may well be a "White Lie" or even a "Black Lie". Other defrag programmes show such a Microsloth Drefragged disk as being Heavily Fragmented ! Why should this happen ? Possibly so that you will be encouraged to "upgrade" to Windoze Vista, when (Lo and Behold) the MS Defrag is suddenly working again !!! I believe that this "flaw" happened with a recent Windoze "Update", which co-incided with the Launch of Vista. Hmmm, very suspicious. Try such a GPL program as "JK Defrag" (there are others) but this one is tried and tested, and uses MS own API when moving files, so as to eliminate the risk of data loss AFAP. No need to run this as a screen saver, or even every day as the software manufacturer recommends, but it will benefit from being run several ( 5 or 6 ) times, after you first install it. I noticed a marked increase in speed, and a reduction in Boot / Shutdown time. Particularly the infamously slow "Add / Remove Programs" applet appears almost instantly, in mine own case. Usual disclaimer and provisos apply, Caveat Omnes Consentit. Have luck. .......... John |
