Error 1722 - Windows Installer Package...

I get this error -- There is a problem with the Windows Installer package.
A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your
support personnel or package vendor.

I contacted the authors of Retrospect 7.5. I've tried to install the latest
version - error. Their suggestion - unstall version 7.0. Again in the
uninstall process the same error.

The latest windows installer was downloaded within the past 24 hours. I got
this message before the latest version of the installer and after installing
the latest installer.

I could not uninstall or install in safe mode.

I am at a loss. Help is appreciated.

Thank you.

Re: Error 1722 - Windows Installer Package...

Reboot.

Click Start>Run, type: %temp% and click OK.
Press Ctrl+A to select all, then press Delete.

Click Start>Run, type: temp and click OK.
Press Ctrl+A to select all, then press Delete.

Windows will not let you delete any files in use....just skip them if prompted, and
continue to delete the remaining files, then empty the Recycle Bin.

After that, please follow the instructions on this web page exactly:

Update to the Latest InstallShield Installation Engines
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=q108322

Then try uninstalling your version 7 of Retrospect, and install version 7.5

If that does not help, go through the list here:

How to resolve Common "Windows Installer" Problems
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=555175

An absolute "last resort" method is to use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to
remove all references Retrospect only, and then try the installation:

Windows Installer Cleanup Utility -
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/MSICLEAN.htm
and
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290301

Just to be safe, before using the CleanUp Utility, export the following two Registry
keys to a file and save them to your Documents folder or Desktop:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Patches

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Patches

Re: Error 1722 - Windows Installer Package...

Thank you.

I think I've got other issues with this system.

Click Start>Run, type: temp and click OK.
Press Ctrl+A to select all, then press Delete.

At this point, the systemseemed like it was taking a long time. Taskmanager
was running and system idle process was at 99%. However, when I tried to
move around task manager, the system hung. It was impossible to shut down,
except power off.

The system was rebooted safe mode - command prompt. everythng in
windows\temp was deleted -- del *.*

The recycle bin was already empty -- the usual state.

I have noticed over the past two weeks, or so, that some deletes from
windows explorer seemed to take longer than normal, but did not pay much
attention to it.

Since the install process is indicating a program did not finish, if it was
deleting files, could this be part of my problem?

My next step is to proceed with the update th the Latest InstallShield.
However, I wanted to pass this by you first.

Thanks.

Re: Error 1722 - Windows Installer Package...

How many files were you deleting at one time from the Temp folder?

What is the hardware on the system....namely: processor type and speed, amount of
RAM, size of hard drive and amount of free space left on it?

Re: Error 1722 - Windows Installer Package...

How many files were you deleting at one time from the Temp folder? Don't
know. Probably a couple of hundred or so. When they were deletd with the
dos command del *.* running in safe mode, it was almost instantaneous to
delete evrything.

What is the hardware on the system....namely: processor type and speed,
amount of
RAM, size of hard drive and amount of free space left on it?

Processor
Model : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
Speed : 2.79GHz

size, 2 lines per sector
L2 On-board Cache : 512kB ECC Synchronous, ATC, 8-way set, 64 byte line

Re: Error 1722 - Windows Installer Package...

OK....I thought perhaps the system was older with a slow processor or insufficient
memory, but that's not the case.

Carry on with the InstallShield update, and let us know the results.
