Runtime error 216 at [address]

I've just steup WindowsXP on a new computer and occasionally get the
following message:

'Runtime Error 216 at 00002E30'

when right clicking a file in Explorer.

Any ideas what might be casuing this (not virus related).

tks

Marc

Re: Runtime error 216 at [address]

Ramesh,

That was the same article I was refering to in my previous reply. If you follow
the Symantec link it mentions a 1999 virus. The MMS article is for 95/98 & ME
though not XP

Re: Runtime error 216 at [address]

Tks for that.

The problem wasn't virus related as it's a new pc and the very first thing I
did was install various anti-malware apps (just to be sure I scanned with a
virus checker and nothing was found).

However, I had installed an explorer replacement FloderView that I used on
the old pc (also XP Pro) for a few years without problem. I've now
ininstalled it and the problem went away so looks like that was the culprit
(just reinstalled FolderView and the problem reocurred - uninstalled it and
back to normal). Puzzling and annoying.

Having just set up this new PC in the last few days I am surprised that XP
Pro seems to be a diffrent to what I was used to before but that's probably
because I can't remeber how I had the old XP Pro pc set up. I'm sure there's
a lesson there somewhere.....

Marc
