Windows XP automatically logs on after 30 minutes
Hi,
I have a strange problem with a Windows XP laptop which is part of a corporate domain. If you start the machine it will go to the logon screen where you must hit ctrl+alt+del to logon to the computer which is fine. If you do nothing to the computer and just leave it sitting at the logon screen it will lock the users computer account automatically after 30 minutes. This is without the user logging on or anything. We set a 15 minute time period before the machine atuomatically locks from no use and at 20 minutes the screen saver will come on. One strange thing with the screen message after this, instead of the message saying the computer is locked by 'Domain\User ID (User Name)' it says the computer is locked by '(User Name)'. It always has the users name in there when this happens even if I reboot the machine and log into it last. When he tries to unlock it the machine will not allow him to enter a user name and he would have to force a reboot. If the user logs into the machine there are no problems, when it locks the account the proper message is shown and the macine works fine otherwise. I have removed the machine from the OU and put it into a workgroup and back into the domain and the problem still persists. These machines are all current with security updates and patches and all of the hardware is working properly on the computer and I made sure all of the drivers were up to date. Any ideas where to look for a solution short of re-imaging the machine? Thanks for any input, Dennis |

Perhaps the user set some task in task scheduler to run "when my
computer starts" Dennis wrote: > Hi, > > I have a strange problem with a Windows XP laptop which is part of a > corporate domain.
