Recent problems after AutoDesk install

I'm running 200 pro, SP-4,but I'm posting here since Win2K is technically the
first XP version....

A few months ago I had a seamless, perfect install of AutoCAD, student
version. We run TrendMicro for virus protection and I think I may have
inadvertantly checked 'no' to a warning pop-up. (PC-cillin warns me of all
registry changes, etc., and AutoCAD needed to load lots of 'stuff'.)

Out of the blue, my system is haywire. AutoCAD gave me a 'fatal error'
message requiring an uninstall/reinstall. We did a full registry cleaning to
pull AutoCAD totally out, but now it won't install properly - the on-screen
message indicates it's already loaded, but it's not appearing in the
'programs' pull-down menu.

When I log on in the AM I get a series of "The service has not been started"
messages, followed by "Flash_MMIO_MAPDeviceIOControl Error". When I open OE6,
I often get only a partial load, ie, no top task bar.

On top of that, I'm running 46-47 background processes and have no idea how
to control that.

I've got a CeleronD, 1024 memory, 80 and 40 G hard drives. Other than
AutoCAD, I only use the system to check e-mail and bank balances. No games
or extraneous use.

Is this beyond a help-board fix? Am I headed back to my computer tech for
doing something that really screwed my OS?

Hmmm...nope. Windows NT is the ancestor of both....but XP is the replacement
for Win2k Pro and is not the same OS. Please post in the most relevant
group, in order to get the most expert help. Try microsoft.public.win2000.*.

There are Windows 2000 groups, so technically you can post to the
correct group. Also review the Event viewer entries for info so you can
add the error messages when you post there.
