WordPad / NotePad File Truncation

Hi:
I have large text files (e.g. 20-30 MB in size). Most of them, I can open
individually with WordPad &/or NotePad. I convert these files into xml files
by just changing the filename extension. I try to load them into Excel via
drag&drop, but a few of the files cause an errror message at this point. The
error msg can be viewed by opening the file in IE. The file is truncated, so
xml tags are missing, thus causing errors. Also, if I start with a smaller
file (txt or xml) and then copy & paste additional text into it, the text
will get truncated during the paste...in other words,
the entire subsection does not paste into the document. What is going on ?
I can open another file twice this size and have no problem, yet, this and a
couple of other files are giving me this same type of problem. If this were
a buffer limit, then I would not be able to open the larger files (which I
can). Hidden characters ??? If so, how can I see (detect) them ? Thank
you...DaleB

If they are really .xml files you should be able to open them in Internet
Explorer 6 or 7 and save them. Notepad works for .html better than .xml . I
now have Emacs 22.1 installed and I am enjoying using it rather than Notepad
most of the time. Try this link : http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs . You
may need to use a program to convert .txt to .xml besides Notepad. I don't
even know if Emacs can do this.
