ICON DISPLAY PROBLEM

In XP, my midi sequencer program files suddenly show the windows media
player icon instead of their usual icon.

I tried deleting the .mid file type and creating a new one, but the wmp
icon still displays. When I choose Change Icon, the correct icon is not
in the group of icons shown.

Where are these icons stored, and how can I find the icon that belongs
to a specific file type?
