Error message file misising or corrupt /windows\system32\config\sy
when I start the recovery process for this error in Windows XP and I type in
"md tmp", it tells me "access denied". I can't go any further to fix the above problem. Why is this happening? Thanks for your help. Lorraine |

How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545/ What you say suggests to me that you are not logging on as the Administrator. The process is referred to in the link. Good luck. -- Hope this helps. Won't your suggestion help retrieve data rather than enable the system hive to be replaced? Alternatively are you saying you can replace the existing system hive with a backup copy using your approch? I can see that the system hive will not be in use. -- Regards.
