Re: Msinfo32 error message

Delete the files in the REPOSITORY folders (..\system32\wbem)
(you will have to turn off the winmanagement service to do that)
'net stop winmgmt'

Re: Msinfo32 error message

Thanks, Mark. I am going to try that tomorrow Monday 16 Jun. How do I
restore the files, or would WinXP restore them when I shut-off system and do
a cold-start?

Re: Msinfo32 error message

Msinfo32.exe Generates a "Can't Collect Information" Error Message:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=323209

If that does not help, try these commands from Start/Run:

regsvr32 %Windir%\system32\wbem\wbemprox.dll
regsvr32 %Windir%\system32\wbem\wbemcore.dll
regsvr32 %Windir%\system32\wbem\wbemsvc.dll
regsvr32 %Windir%\system32\wbem\fastprox.dll

Re: Msinfo32 error message

Right, they are rebuilt as needed, it just takes a delay that saving them
avoids. A WMI error is almost always a corrupt repository file problem.

Re: Msinfo32 error message

Mark,
I tried your suggestion, and after that Ramesh regsvr32 commands. Didn't
work I still getting the "cannot access the windows ....." in the system
information window. I am getting a message when I close the system info
window "an error ocurred in the script of this page" --
hcp://system/sysinfo/msinfo.htm, Line 6, char 3, error: object required, Code
0.
I also cannot run the windows update with IE6, with "files required to use
Microsoft update are not longer required or installed..." I dowloead and
register the files, with a 100% reply... but it goes back to the "files
required.... etc." and do no update.
When I try to edit the msinfo.htm I get a "missing file c:\css\PCHealth.css."
IE6 might be the problem. Thanks for help and regards, Eugenio

Re: Msinfo32 error message

Rames, thanks for your suggetion.
I ran the regsvr32 and they executed OK. I also did the Mark
recommendations. I think the wmi data is OK, and what may be wrong is the
system info display --isn't this part of internet explorer? Thanks,
Eugenio

Re: Msinfo32 error message

Ramesh, no, it did not help. I went thru the info and took the actions, but
nothing, msinfo32 keeps on not being able to display information.
I tried the WMIDiag.vbs, and here are the restuls:
Error: WMI ADAP status. I ran the winmgmt.exe /clearadap and /resyncperf.
Error: Error WMI moniker connection, root, ox1AD activex component can't
create object.
Errors external to WMI: Registry info for DCOM, changed COM/DCOM keys have
been changed by some program. I ran regsvr32.exe for ole32.dll and
oleaut32.dll
No positive results. What else can I do? Would I have to reinstall WinXP,
which I am reluctant to do?
Thanks for all your help and insight into the windows magical world.
Eugenio

Re: Msinfo32 error message

Try repairing WMI using the steps here:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/repairwmi.htm

See section "Comprehensive rebuild method" in that page.
