screen is split in safe-mode

I am running xp pro,fully updated. when i choose to run in safe mode,my
screen is split in two sections. the taskbar is about 3 inches from the
bottom. below this taskbar is a broud black line an inch deep. then below
this is what should be the top 1 inch of the screen. also when i boot in
normal mode,there is a white dotted progress bar that runs across about 2
inches from bottom of screen and the words 'microsoft copyright' are
partially off the screen to the left.this has only started to happen since
the safe-mode problem. this is when the machine is booting, before the
welcome screen. when it is booted up, everything runs normally. I have
scanned with cwshredder,ad-aware 2007 and super antispyare. all come up
clean. has anyone any suggestions

i have sorted the problem. me or my wife must have accidently touched the
auto config button on the monitor when dusting it. all is well now. these
things are sent to try us.
