XP Restore Options - How - by Default or Custom?
I have a used Dell box with XP Media Center. Installed Silverlight, it bliue
screened, and on a reboot one of the options was to restore the system to a previous version - 1 day old, 3 days old, a week old, etc. Easy restore back to a stable system. My QUESTION: Does this type of restore come by Default or by Custom setup? I am reinstalling XP on another Dell box and want to repeat the same opportunity. (Do I need to create a 2nd partition for restoring? Set up a particular folder for system info?) Thanks in advance! :-) |

Re: XP Restore Options - How - by Default or Custom?
XP makes a "Restore Point" about once a day......non adjustable.
During the Silverlight Installation it created a Restore Point...then did the installation.Thats how it recovered from the Blue Screen. The files for a restore point are automatically saved to a specific folder...non changeable. You can only control the amount of Hard drive space to allocate to restore Points...not where You can create a manual restore point at any time before installing new Software. you can delete old restore points enmass but not individual ones. If XP ceases to boot you will not have access to these restore points. Hopefully this was somewhat helpful.. A good back up routine is usually more beneficial than restore points... peter -- DISCLAIMER: If you find a posting or message from me offensive, inappropriate, or disruptive, please ignore it.
