Anyone knows how to update BIOS?
Do I put the floppy disk with the ROM file when I restart the machine? |

More likely most people hunt high and low for the instruction manual and learn how to update the bios from it. |

Re: Update BIOS
The vendor had released the latest BIOS. I would think if fixes something
and make compatible to latest OS. Why does the vendor releases latest BIOS? > First thing that comes to mind is Why do you NEED to upgrade the BIOS? |

Re: Update BIOS
G'day Alan,
When you download the BIOS update it should come with a ReadMe or other instructions of what to do. If not, it's usually listed on the manufacturers site near the download The instructions will be something like: Copy to flash utility & the BIOS update onto a floppy disk Restart with floppy in the drive Select the BIOS update from the list (if not automatically found) Leave to flash --- Reboot without floppy in the drive & go into the BIOS Set the BIOS up with things like Plug/Play OS, EPP... F10 (save & exit) -- Newbie Coder (It's just a name) "Alan T" <alanNOSPAMpltse***********.au> wrote in message news:OXAjo%23d7HHA.1484@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > Anyone knows how to update BIOS? > Do I put the floppy disk with the ROM file when I restart the machine? > > |

Thanks.
I'll try it then. BIOS is kept in surface mount flash memory chips on your motherboard. If the BIOS code is damaged, or mangled by an unsucessful update attempt, your mother board may not boot again. The code that reads Windows in from hardisk is in BIOS. Recovery from this boo-boo is difficult to impossible. The flash memory chips are nearly impossible to remove and replace. Reprograming the flash chips in place is a black art known to very few. How bad do you need to update BIOS? Was it my machine I'd only update BIOS to fix some impossible to live with bug.
