Hiding your inactive notification icons
I have been using Windows XP for over 6 years now and have been told at least
once a day if not more that Windows XP is hiding my inactive notification icons. Finally, after 2000+ messages I get the point. It is no longer necessary to remind me where my inactive icons are. Is there a way to turn off just that one message without turning off all notification area messages? Some of the other messages can be important; this one in particular, though, is not. Thanks, Dale -- Dale Preston MCAD C# MCSE, MCDBA |

RE: Hiding your inactive notification icons
I know I can tell Windows not to hide the inactive icons but then I don't
have any task bar space left because every program under the sun puts an incon in the notification area. I want the inactive icons hidden. I just don't get why Windows has to tell me every single time I boot my PC that it is doing so and why the balloon doesn't go away until I click something. This is one area where the Macintosh commercials are on the money. Windows flat out tells you too much information that you don't need. Surely they could have added a registry setting or user setting to disable this setting. It should have been a dialog box with a checkmark to not show it again. As far as turning off all notifications, there is a policy setting (hence a registry setting) that turns off all notification area popups including this one but that also turns off popups that reflect changing conditions - compared to this one that reflects a semi-permanent condition. I want to see the popups for events that are unexpected but it is all or nothing. I know it is a little late in the XP cycle but the task bar team really left a lot of things to be desired. Anyway, thanks for your help.
