Microsoft Synctoy

I am trying to download the above utility to enable me to copy my
document/photo/music files onto an external hard drive for use as a backup
in case the main hard drive should ever fail and to avoid the risk of losing
valuable data.

I have visited the MS downloads website and clicked on the download button.
A small pop-up window opens temporarily as you would normally expect, but
this then closes down almost immediately and the download does not proceed.
I have checked my pop-up blocker settings and have added the MS download
site to the allowed list and have even temporarily disabled the pop-up
blocker, but I still cannot download the utility.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Re: Microsoft Synctoy

Thanks Harry for your help with the above.

I tried again to download from the first link as before, but without avail.
When clicking on download, all that happens is that a new, small window
opens temporarily (matter of seconds) and this then closes down - as does
IE7 for no apparent reason.

I then tried your second link (direct download) and this worked fine and I
have now installed the utility and will be using it for the first time in
the next day or so when I get a few moments to spare.

Thanks again.

Re: Microsoft Synctoy

Good to hear you got the toy downloaded. Perhaps your security settings are
interfering with the main download site. Try adding to the
trusted sites and see if that helps.

Re: Microsoft Synctoy

Thanks Harry

Have now installed and been using Synctoy for a number of days and think
that this is a superb little utility program. I have set it to run at the
end of each day and to synchronise 3 main data folders using the Task
Scheduler in Win XP Home and can now rest assured that any changes I have
made during the day will automatically be updated on my external hard drive
without any intervention on my part. The utility just runs in the
background, therefore allowing me to continue working without interruption.
I do have a Nero backup program, but this saves the data files in a format
that can only be used to restore the original data back onto the main drive
and I therefore would not be able to open the files on the external drive in
the usual manner. So MS Synctoy wins hands down for me. Next step for me
is to add my Outlook PST folder for automatic backup once I have sorted out
another problem whereby the program currently writes to two separate folders
for some unknown reason.

So thanks again for your help for downloading the Synctoy utility. By the
way, Microsoft.com is in my list of trusted sites in the security settings -
my guess is the problem lies with IE7 as it also keeps closing down when
trying to close browser tabs.
