IE shortcut icons on desktop have quit working

I have noticed that when I make a shortcut for IE (7) and drag it
to desktop, it does not work. They used to work. What could be
the problem (XP Pro).

THANKS, that did fix that problem. However, now I notice that an shortcut
icon on the desktop for defragmentation also doesn't work. That must be a
different fix. I went to the page you recommended but can't find an
appropriate
fix. Do you know of one??

I think a registry cleaner is to fault for these problems.

What happens when you double click it ? What is the target of shortcut (Open
Properties to see) ?

I have been having this problem for ages and I think I found the problem.
Go to your desktop
Right click, go to Properties, click on Appearance, click on Advanced,
click on the dropdown arrow under Item: click on Icon and resize to no more than 42 size. your icons should show up correctly when you change them.
If that does't work go back to the Appearance Tab and ckick Effects, un check use large icons.
If they get to small go back to the icon size and check the size. no more than 42.
