corrupt or missing \config\system

My son turned his computer on an got the message "windows could not start
because the following file is missing or corrupt
\eindoed\dydtrm32\config\system"

It prompts me to insert the origianl Setup CD-ROM. however when we bought
our presarios we weren't given any. I have tried to bring it up in Safe Mode
and do a system restore but canniot get passed th above message.

How can we get his computer back or create some sort of boot CD to get us up
in Safe Mode

\eindoed\dydtrm32\config\system ??? Are you sure you got that right?
Or do you mean \Windows\System32\config\system?

Re: corrupt or missing \config\system

John John,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, your version of the error message is correct. I
don't know how I typed appeared the way it did. I have looked at both
suggestions but I'm not sure if they will help. The first option says it is
not to be used for OEM installed versions of XP (mine came preloaded from
Compaq). The second involves creating boot floppies but I do not have a
floppy drive on the laptop so I still feel stuck.

Any other ideas? Thanks for your help in any case.
