We have 16000 members here, but number of active members are very few. Why??
[.....]
My first thought is that this site is multi-dimensional (OS-wise) and clearly
the more active members are multi-OS-knowledgeable and so there
is no 'common-allegiance' to a particular OS or Linux-distro/family.
That's GOOD from an 'unbiased-opinion' point-of-view, but
the only "bond" among members will be some general 'tech-respect',
but beyond that, much less "I feel like I'm among friends who have made
similar choices."
For example, I feel 'bonded' with members of the Mepis(Linux-distro) forums
(it's called "MepisLovers" for exactly that reason!)
because it's my favorite distro. But, my feeling is that that is less-likely to be
able to happen in such a 'generic' set of forums such as this one.
[Another: Would you rather go to a party where you knew no one previously, or a party
that was a gathering of all your fellow football-team members?]
