Default Local Area Connection Properties

I'm using Windows XP on two computers.

In Local Area Connection Properties

On one computer:
The Client for Microsoft Networks has a blue checkbox
But File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks has a clear checkbox

On the other computer:
The Client for Microsoft Networks has a clear checkbox
But File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks has a blue checkbox

What does that mean?

Also, NetBios does not show in either computer. It it not needed for file
sharing in a workgroup?

Ignore the first post

When I try to show workgroup members I'm told the workgroup is not
accesable.

When I look on the Internet for solutions I'm told to be sure NetBios is
active.

NetBios does not show in my computers. It it nolonger needed for file
sharing in a workgroup?

I just noticed in Local Area Connections Properties that
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is checked but its
background is gray not clear.
What does that mean?
