Default Chkdsk problem

A week or so ago I read comments about a new(?) Gibson Research product in
another newsgroup. In beta? Was this a new Spinrite version or something
different? Help for Chkdsk errors for years that won't stay away but the
drive otherwise works? I have Spinrite 3.1.

I had no luck finding this with Google.

XP Home.

TIA

I would not use a Beta product

here is what I've used

http://piotrkn22.republika.pl/drev/index.html

NOTE: Drives that I've "repaired" work fine...but I only use them in my
workshop for testing purposes. I'd hesitate to use a drive that had bad
sectors for my main drive.

Since you did not give us a URL to where are these comments, no one here
can address them to discuss with you.

Have you yet visited the grc.com web site to look at what are his
pending research projects? Note that it appears everything at
spinrite.com is old or he doesn't update his site much. In his
TrustPuppy page, he talks about Windows XP SP-2 as though it is new.

How would we know what you read elsewhere but don't tell us where that
is?

Are you asking if a hard disk detected as "bad" (pending sectors shown
in SMART data that don't eventually get written to reserve sectors) by
CHKDSK but tests as okay is a device you should continue using? Your
question is poorly worded plus there is no context to it. What are the
CHKDSK errors? Have you reviewed the SMART data for the drive? Since
you mention Spinrite, what did that product say about your hard disk?

It has been up to version 6 since way back on 07-Jun-2004. For users of
v3.1 or v4.0, the upgrade price is $49.

HDD Regenerator costs $85 (for now); else, it costs $100 (which is more
than non-upgrade Spinrite v6 at $89). At one time, it was $54 under
some other temporary discount. I know of some folks that like this
product; however, I don't like that they hide how their product works.
Their online manual is worthless. Spinrite gives a 30-day guarantee: if
not satisfied, you can get a full refund (so you can test the fully
functional product to repair your drive to decide if it works or not).
HDD Regenerator claims a 30-day guarantee but I haven't found what is
guaranteed.

So you want us to comment on some non-described comments you found
elsewhere that we don't know about and have nothing on which to search
or relate to personal experience? "I read something and want help on
something." Uh huh.
