![]() I have both office 2003 and 2007 installed on my pc.
When I right-click on a database extension (mdb) I have the choice to use 2003 or 2007. Yet when I do the same with an Excel or Word doc, I only have 2007? Even if I select Open with - Choose Programs and select the excel.exe from office 11, it still opens it using 2007 (office 12)? The only way I can use 2003 is to launch the exe myself and file-open... How can I set it up to give me the choice for all office docs to use either 2003 or 2007? Thank you, QB Sponsored Links |

![]() perhaps, you might try configuring
the "file types" for the word extensions. you can re set ..docx to word 07 & ..doc to word 03. the same applies to excel files. here are the instructions: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/307859 -- db·´¯`·... ¸><)))º> DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @Hotmail.com "share the nirvana mann" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > "QB" <QB@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:030DA602-0A15-468E-A0DD-1F1A57E777F0@microsoft.com... > I have both office 2003 and 2007 installed on my pc. > > When I right-click on a database extension (mdb) I have the choice to use > 2003 or 2007. > > Yet when I do the same with an Excel or Word doc, I only have 2007? ![]() No good! Already tried. I got and select the exe from office11 and save,
and it still opens with office12. Any other ideas? Where is this info kept in the registry since the dialog does not work for this change? Will this change make it appear in the right-click context menu? ![]() for the registry method you
can click on start>run>regedit then press f3 key and enter ..html or .docx the criteria above should take you to the registry branch that lists "all" the file extensions in alphabetical order. you can try to modify the .doc extenstion and ensure that it is set to office 03 "or" you can delete the entire key then exit the registry and see if clicking on a doc document still opens a program. if not, then you can re assign the .doc extension the normal way be creating via the explorer> file options>file types ------------- you may want to jot down the data of the key you will delete. because sometimes simply deleteing the key and recreating it will solve the problem. -- db·´¯`·... ¸><)))º> DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @Hotmail.com "share the nirvana mann" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > "QB" <QB@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:14C36DC6-2706-4BD3-AEA0-4FCECA36D521@microsoft.com... > No good! ![]() Sponsored Links Some background information:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b/928091/en-us The bit that might apply is the fact that any updates to either version will repair that version and possibly screw up the associations. I suddenly started having the problems you describe with Office 2000/2007 but I couldn't be bothered to investigate and just decided to get rid of Office 2000. It now looks likely that I've had to do a Detect and Repair at some stage in Office 2000 and that might have screwed things up. Try repairing both versions, starting with 2003. If that doesn't work you could try uninstalling the lot and reinstalling in the correct order.
