Default Restoring Backup File & warning message

Recently had to reformat the hard drive and start from scracth (system files
were corrupted). We have our personal files backed up on an external hard
drive. When I use the Backup Utility to restore the files to their original
location, I get a warning:

"warning: the target file system does not support some of the features of
the original file system. Some data may not be restored as a result."

After pressing OK, the computer processes the restore, but no files actually
get restored. I can see the files while in the Backup Utility on the ext.
hard drive but I don't want to have to manually restore things

Our desktop is now operating with SP3; i can't remember what SP was on the
computer before we had to reformat. Please help! Thanks in advance!

This message appears when you have files backed up from an NTFS file system
and try to restore them to a FAT32 file system. So the first thing to check
is that you did not inadvertently perform the new format with FAT32. If you
did, you can use Convert to change it, from the command prompt type:
convert c: /fs=ntfs.

If that checks ok, i.e., both are NTFS, then all I can suggest is to google
for differences between, or problems with, Backup in SP 3 and earlier SP
versions. I haven't heard of any, but that doesn't mean much.

Thanks so much Mike for the reply. Both the hdd and the ext drive are NTFS
(I was so hoping that it was just a difference in partitioning!). So off to
Google I go; I searched quite a bit before posting here. Hopefully I'll find
something new! Thanks again.
